At Anthony Clifford Studios we have a strong tradition in teacher
training. We are an ISTD Approved Dance
Centre offering all the units of both the FDI and CDE teacher training
exams on a part time basis.
Our incredible "Dream Team" faculty have a vast experience in training FDI and CDE students and an impressive list of qualifications. Lessons are available with Jacqueline Barnes, Christina Ballard, Vivienne Saxton and Diana Clifford.
Foundation in Dance Instruction (FDI) and Certificate in Dance Education (CDE) have now replaced the Associate qualification and we can offer this exam in the following genre:
Imperial Ballet, Tap, Modern, Latin American, Ballroom, Disco
Freestyle and Line Dancing.
Our students are
at least
17 years of age, but we also welcome application from mature students who
have a suitable background as professional performers or teachers and need
to update or complete their teaching qualifications but don't want to go
back
to full-time
College.
To begin with teacher training students need to have passed their Intermediate ISTD exam in each genre they wish to teach. These exams can be studied with us in our regular classes on Sundays mornings or weekday evenings, or studied in daytime private lessons. Licentiate and Fellowship coaching or syllabus revision is also available on request.
Units 4 & 5 FDI Modern and Tap group classes take place alternate
Mondays 10.15-12.15 during term time.
Units 4 & 5 FDI Imperial Ballet group class takes place Thursdays 9.30-11.30
during term time.
Units 6 & 7 CDE Modern and Tap group classes are on alternate
Mondays 12.30-2.30 during term time with additional classes for CDE Tap on
Thursdays
9.30-2.30 for those that wish to have weekly lessons.
As part of their training, student teachers will need to watch senior teachers at work here or at another dance school, affiliated to the centre. They will learn how to conduct and plan classes and more easily apply their new knowledge. Tutorials for these units and those of the CDE are available by appointment with your tutor.
Here at Anthony Clifford Studios we appreciate the busy lives and varying commitments of our students and wherever possible work around your schedules. If we currently do not cater for a class at a time to suit you it always worth asking us.

The candidate arranges to watch classes at the Centre or Affiliated School
in advance of the lessons over a period of several weeks / months.
When teaching practice is undertaken in CDE the candidate will be assessed
teaching their own students by their Tutor, again over a period of weeks
or months, culminating in their final teaching assessment.
Dance Genre Bibliographies and Studies
These units are on a topic based on your chosen dance genre.
You choose an essay title or question based on a person, Company, aspect
of style or historic period which has influenced your chosen genre.
The Tutors can advise candidates on suitable subjects and how to go about
studying and collecting information during a short tutorial.
