Tap has to be one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic dance styles. Its roots are set in America and now the syllabus of the ISTD reflects this very earthy and rhythmic style, which has had an influence on British theatre for some time.
The exam syllabus starts at primary through to grade 6 for the children's grades, to Intermediate, Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 for the students interested in professional training or those who wish to enter our Teacher Training Programme.
Where else can children get away with making a noise but in a Tap class?
Students can start Tap when they are 3 years old in our Baby Tap class and will start to learn some of the fundamental grounding in tap dancing, this is increased during the 30 minute pre-primary classes. The primary syllabus is covered when the student moves into the 45 minute primary class. From then on the student will progress through the grades in order.
For the late starters we run teenage beginner classes for those students who decide to dance when they are older, with no previous experience
Check out our timetable for the full range of classes available. Please phone or email to confirm that there are spaces available as there could be a waiting list running on specific classes which are currently full.
We are very pleased to reintroduce tap classes for adults with two classes, one for beginners and the second class for the more experienced. Check the timetable for times and venue.
BOYS
Because the tap syllabus is the same for girls and boys apart from style differences, there are no separate boys tap classes.
